The Olympic Dream

The Rio Olympics 2016 mark the pinnacle of many athletes sporting careers. Thanks to the type of work we do with sportsmen and women day in and out at ActiveBacks we have had the good fortune to work with some incredible athletes over the years. One of our most naturally gifted athletes that we’ve had the privilege to work with in the build up to his Olympic dreams in Rio this year is Constantine Louloudis, as featured here in The Telegraph earlier this year:

Rowing clearly requires incredible strength and stamina. To get rowers’ bodies to perform at their peak, one of the strategies we recommend is three-dimensional exercises. Why three-dimensional, especially given all you want is for the boat to go in a straight line as fast as is humanly possible, right? With the human body, everything functions in three dimensions, and each dimension has equal importance. You can imagine the trouble you could get into if you spend all day only loading and training in that one direction you are trying to send the boat in!

The Telegraph article above describes our work with Stan as well as the Oxford Boat Race Crew, and details a few tips about the 3D training that we use with many athletes to help prevent overuse in any single plane. This can be a good thing to keep in mind with whatever level of activity you undertake.

This Olympics help us cheer on Stan in the GB men’s coxless four as well as Paul Bennett in the GB men’s coxed eight who is also featured on our testimonial page describing how we’ve helped him in the past. Paul will actually be racing against Mike DiSanto (as seen in the photos above), who’s racing for team USA in the same men’s eight race; may the best team win!!

Get Your Back Active

You don’t have to be a competitive rower or occasional athlete to benefit from three-dimensional movement. Using different movements even in everyday tasks can reduce your risk of injury and help you stay stronger. Moving in a rotational manner has numerous benefits including increasing core strength. Power up your game by performing some rotational lunges before you play your sport of choice.

Having a healthy spine is also important when it comes to withstanding the various stressors that are a part of everyday life. Whether you have Olympic aspirations or want to maintain your level of fitness, we’d love to see how we could help you, so don’t hesitate to get in touch and get your active back!
